Intercache: Conspicuous Gallantry
“That the President is authorized to present, in the name of the Congress, a medal of honor only to each person who, while an officer or enlisted man of the Army, shall hereafter, in action involving actual conflict with the enemy, distinguish himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.”
Congressional Act of 9 July 1918
This Intercache will guide you in a visit to the gravesites of four American soldiers who were awarded the Medal of Honor for action during the American Civil War, Indian Campaigns and Vietnam War.
The first 3 markers are flat, granite stones, with goldtone lettering and the words "Medal of Honor" in addition to the names and dates.
The fourth marker is flat and made of bronze. It has the words "Medal of Honor - Purple Heart" in addition to the name and dates.
Permission has been obtained from the cemetery general manager.
Cemetery visiting hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

What's an Intercache?
An InterCache is an interactive geocache; an intercache is a new way of creating a mystery geocache, similar to a wherigo geocache. The biggest difference is that the entire geocache can be developed, edited, and played on your mobile device's browser with no software required to download!
How do you play?
First, make sure you have a compatible device. Make sure the GPS on your device is turned on. Go to www.intercaching.com/intercache/ on your device's browser and select the test button. It is recommended to do this outside for best results. You should see your current coordinates as well as the estimated accuracy. If you see something reasonable, you are all set. If you get an error, you may need to enable the GPS and other geolocation settings on your device. Not all browsers support the gps api, you may need to download a different browser as well.
If your device and browser is compatible, then head on over to the Select Cache, type in gallantry and submit to start. It is suggested you do not close your browser until you have completed the cache. There is a compass that has a red arrow pointing you the right direction as you move. You may have to walk a little bit before the arrow points in the right direction as this application does not have access to your phone's digital compass.
Some stages will ask you to answer a question and all will require that you are within a given radius (20 feet) of the location before you can move on. When you have completed all stages of the Intercache you will find a traditional cache container and log.
Internet connections can be made but may be erratic at the cemetery. Since the compass and distance shown on the pages is internet dependant, I have provided deg/min/sec coordinates that can be manually entered into your GPS to get you to each gravesite. You will need to have a connection at each site for a new page to come up, with coordinates for the next site.
It may work best to do this as a group.
Feel free to share photos of your visit, as there are many unique and impressive monuments.
Please, no spoilers.
Don't close your browser if you use your phone's camera during your tour or you'll have to start over.
