Geocache Description:

This cache is a continuation of River Valley Run Cache #1 and must be solved second because clues from #1 are used to find the coordinates to the clues for this cache.

Clues from seven virtual caches - one in Boone and six around the darker side of Boone County - lead to a real cache in a haunted forest. Going at night adds to the atmosphere. I didn't actually believe this area was haunted until I stumbled on a website about it after the idea of this cache was already conceived.

Steps have been arranged in order to minimize total driving distance, which is about 15 miles.

Coordinates given above are only for the general area and have no significance in solving the cache.

Substitute the given letters in the coordinates for steps 6-10 with the corresponding numbers from Table 1 of R. V. R. Cache #1. Remember that if a letter appears more than once in the table, always use the first occurrence of that letter (starting from the left)!!

6. 42°0N.UID' N, 93°5V.VEA'W How many were killed or wounded: ßßßßß

On the way from Step 6 to Step 7, you may see a giant mound of coal to the south of the road with a flag on top. Unfortunately, it's on private property.

7. 42°0G.TGU'N, 93°5U.TAH'W There are four dates on this sign. What is the earliest date? ¬¬¬¬
What is the ninth word in the blue area of this sign? ¦¦

CAUTION: On the road from Step 7 to Step 8, the pavement ends just over the crest of a hill with no warning, right before a sharp gravel curve. Don't slide off the road!

8. 42°0N.AID'N, 93°5I.TVS'W How many vertical metal support pillars with zig-zagging crossbars does this bridge have? •• This does not include diagonal pillars or small square support bars. Be sure to look to the south, if you haven't already.

9. 42°0S.DSS'N, 93°5U.NSU' W Who? ~~~~~~ ¡¡¡¡
How old was he? §§

10. 42°0S.SAB'N, 93°5U.TNB' W Established in what year? ÞÞÞÞ This step is currently only used to double-check the final coordinates using Table 3 (See Apr. 16 log), but this may be reorganized soon.
Record the intersection where you are: L _ _ _ Y _ E A F. The four letters in the blanks also fit in their respective places of the 9-letter last name of Step 11.

Plug in letters and numbers from Steps 6-10, and Step 3 of Cache #1, into Table 2. Letters are on top, numbers on bottom.

Table 2:

To solve for the coordinates to the final cache site, replace the letters that appear in the coordinates with the corresponding number below that letter from Table 2. If a letter appears more than once in the table, always use the first occurrence of that letter (starting from the left) Repeat occurrences of a letter are not used. Leave the letters and numbers that currently appear in their places. Be careful to differentiate zeros (0) from the letter O.

Cache #2 Location, using Table 2: The parking lot for this area is at the end of the dirt road that goes west from 42°0U.UAO'N, 93°5R.TLA'W. You can also park at the bottom of the hill to avoid the dirt road if it's too muddy, the hike is shorter but not as nice. The final site is located at 42°0O.YIL'N, 93°5N.FMM'W . Beware of spiders!

If you found Cache #2, congratulations! I might be adding a third one soon.

Original contents: Swedish, Danish, German, Austrian, and French change, 2 D-size flashlight, bobbing head dog, fish hooks and bobbers, gold swan, lip balm, and 2 scented candles.
