PA 5 Hattie's Ford Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

publiclandfun: Archiving as I refuse to waste gas for senseless requests! Most caches that have been hit have found logs by reputable geocachers that tell they are ok. Love the game but the system is flawed!

Geocache Description:

Matchstick container up off the ground because of water flow evidence in the area. Please make sure it is secure when you replace it. Park in the designated parking area - DO NOT try to access from Highway D.

There is a deep muck fen here. Sounds appetizing right? This is one of only 8 deep muck fens in the area. There is a sign on the North side of the parking area that tells you what a deep muck fen is if you are interested. The cache is the other way though. :) If you follow the trail that leaves the parking area between the boulders, you will come to a creek bed. It was dry when I was here and made a quick and easy access back to the cache site.

Caches numbered between PA5 and PA10 are on a kind of “loop” that may be accessed from Highway D at either end. There is a low water ford involved, so be prepared for that.

The Northeast section of Lake Wappapello is an area full of hidden gems for geocachers. The caches I have placed in this area are all easily accessed from parking or trails. Please use designated parking or turnaround places instead of parking on road. There is minor bushwhacking in this series, but long pants are advised in summer months. No caches are placed in beds of poison ivy, but cachers may brush against some if not careful, and ticks are prevalent. I saw no snakes as I placed this cache, but be aware of possibilities.

There are no “conveniences” (gas, food, restrooms) in this area. Please be prepared. I also had no AT&T signal in much of this area, so phone cachers should save caches for “offline” use.

Do not hunt for these caches when gates are closed. If lake levels are high, some areas may be inaccessible. Most areas are closed between 10 pm and 4 am.

Please note that the Lost Creek Area is a waterfowl refuge, please be aware of waterfowl seasons.
