Geocache Description:

Holmestrand-Vittingfossbanen

Holmestrand-Vittingfossbanen hadde egen stasjon i Holmestrand.

English

Holmestrand-Vittingfossbanen (HVB) was, as its name says, between Holmestrand and Hvittingfoss. It was a private path that is primarily built to serve Vittingfos Træsliberi (Vittingfos Brug). The course opened in 1902 and was narrow gauge. Holmestrand-Vittingfossbanen had a separate station in Holmestrand. By Gausen, 1 km south of the station, it was associated tracks to NSB, and from 1910 there was also a connection track at the port.

In 1927 the two lanes got a common operations managers, and were joined in A / S Vestfold Privatbaner in 1934. Passenger traffic at HVB was closed in 1931. Goods traffic was from 1935 stopped in periods of shutdown in  Vittingfos Brug. Both lanes were closed on 1 June 1938.

From HVB to the station in Hvittingfoss and engine shed in Holmestrand be preserved. But in 2013 the station Hvittingfoss were exposed to fire.

From TEB's still engine shed at Eidsfoss and water tower on Freste / Fresti, while Revetal station currently houses the café and Fossan is the main house. Otherwise assumed other stations to be demolished, according to the book "Banedata 2004" (published by the Norsk jernbaneklubb (Norwegian Railway Club)), but it should be the remains of bridge piers here and there.

However, it has started up museum operating under the auspices of the Museumsforeningen Vestfold Privatbaner, which have listed 150 meters of rail track along a portion of what was Holmestrand-Vittingfossbanen. The facility includes a copy of Ramnes station (originally at Tønsberg-Eidsfossbanen), and it's built an outside toilet for original drawings and rebuilt one dresinbu from Svinevoll station. Moreover, it is built platform and transitions. On open days there is dresindriving.

The two railway lines are described in Nils Carl Aspen's book "Glemte spor. Historien om sidebanenes tragiske liv" (Baneforlaget, 1994), and the Norwegian Railway Club describes a tour along the two paths in 2008.
