Geocache Description:

6th in the VPS.

Daniel Tompkins formerly served as Governor of New York.  To help fund the state militias for the War of 1812, he loaned his own funds to them. Failing to recover the money through long litigation, his health took a turn and it's believed this induced his alcoholism.  He is said to have presided over the US Senate while intoxicated.  Tompkins is mentioned by Kris Kringle in the 1947 film "Miracle on 34th Street," but the script places him as VP under John Quincy Adams, when Tompkins actually served under James Monroe.

The cache is NOT near the poison ivy.  Be safe.  Have fun!

** A note from IowaChupacabra: Hello! I am attempting to maintain Blue Grass Tom’s geocaches. Have fun as you travel and explore up and down these Iowa back country roads to find the geocaches in this series. As you do so, if you happen upon a wet log, torn bag, or cracked/damaged/missing container, and graciously make the choice to add/replace paper/bag or change out/replace a container, I would certainly appreciate it and Thank You for the help. I attempt to make a run through the area every few months to fix the problems noted in the logs, but there’s always something! Thank You!
