Virķēnu muižas senais nosaukums: Würken. Ordeņa mestrs 1520.gadā izlēņoja Kudlinam dažus zemes gabalus, kurš tur ierīkoja muižu. Zviedru laika sākumā muiža nonāk zviedru armijas leitnanta muižnieka Mihaela Engelharta valdījumā. Pēdējais muižas īpašnieks bijis netieši saistīts ar imperatora Aleksandra III nogalināšanu un tāpēc no 1895.gada dzīvojis ārzemēs. Muižu izrentējis savam krustdēlam Gustavam Bergsonam (1860.-1931.g.) par 300 rubļiem gadā. 1920. gadā 704 ha lielo Virķēnu muižu ieskaitīja valsts zemes fondā. 1921. gada 19.martā muižas centru piešķīra Rūjienas Zemkopības biedrībai lauksaimniecības skolas ierīkošanai. 1936. gada 16.oktobrī Zemkopības biedrības likvidēšanas rezultātā, muiža nonāk Lauksaimniecības kameras īpašumā. Virķēnu muiža piederēja a/s “Rūjienas arodģimnāzija”, kas ēku gatavojās pārdot, jo tā vairs nav nepieciešama mācībām. 2008. gada augustā iedzīvotāji stāsta, ka privatizēta. Apsaimnieko Rūjienas arodģimnāzija. (avots: www.pilis.lv)

The old name of the manor - Würken. In 1520, the Master of the Order leased some land for Kudlin, which built here a manor. The manor became a landlord’s possession of Swedish army lieutenant Mihael Engelhardt at the beginning of the Swedish times in Vidzeme. The last landlord was indirectly related to the killing of Emperor Alexander III and therefore lived abroad from 1895. He leased the manor to his godson Gustav Bergson (1860-1931) for 300 rubles a year. In 1920, 704ha of large estates Virķēni manor was included in the State Land Fund. March 19, 1921, the manor center was granted to the Rūjiena Agricultural Society for planting an agricultural school. October 16, 1936 as a result of disposal of Agriculture Society, manor becomes into possession of the Chamber of Agriculture. Rūjiena gymnasium owned the Virķēni manor but the gymnasium was about to sell the building because it is no longer necessary for learning. In 2008 the people are telling that the manor has been privatized. Today is managed by Rūjiena gymnasium. (source: www.pilis.lv)
