How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

A little birdie told me that you'll like this little cache. Come find him!

This is a L@@KING cache. Stand at the coordinates and just look around! No need to move branches, crawl, nor climb, to find Rio. So you get less dirty and scratched up. If you're willing to retrieve and return the container, this is a good cache for young children.

Thanks to GPSFergie5 for info about a nearby nest! The cache is not a "nest", so you may avoid bothering the bird families.

After signing the log, gently return Rio to his perch (a Velcro pad). If he's not found on his perch, or if there's evidence of damage, or if there are nesting birds, please make a Needs Maintenance log. But in that case, also remember to log your Find.

There are several other caches in this park including these easy ones:

Horton's End GC7JMYZ
Kung Fu Elephant GC7JMZH
Grizzly Adam GC4G9N0
Visit Horton GC4G9MC

The basic Official Geocaching App shows only the caches that are very easy. Using a web browser, you may visit the Geocaching.com web site and make a note of cache coordinates.

When you're ready to go for the next level, try this in the Official Geocaching App:
While "navigating" to any cache, you can add a new waypoint to any coordinates you see on Geocaching.com, and go. Check that cache size and the Terrain and Difficulty rating to be sure you're prepared. Watch out, it could become a real adventure!

There’s a $5 parking fee for out-of-county vehicles, so you might plan to make your visit more than just a single cache run. Situated on Fayette County's newest and largest reservoir, Lake Horton Park covers 82 acres and offers paved walking trails, boat ramps, picnic areas, and fishing. Look for deer, wading birds, and other wildlife. Open from dawn to dusk.

Cache placement was approved in this Fayette County park by:

Have fun and happy caching!!
