Victor Roman (1937-1995)
The talent of the artist coming from a Transylvanian peasant family was obvious from his early childhood, so his parents sent him to the Fine Arts High School in Targu Mures. After graduating in 1954 he studied in the Nicolae Grigorescu School of sculpture in Bucharest in the classes of Constantin Baraschi and Ion Murnu. An important milestone of his evolving carrier was when he left Romania and spent six months at the Royal College of Art on a British Council grant. Here the major representatives of the British sculpture made major impact on him. He said farewell from London through the solo exhibition in the East Europe Center in 1968 and he traveled to Paris. In France, despite initial difficulties, he managed to exhibit his works in important venues and, in time, he was given significant awards. In 1995, after a short illness he died unexpectedly. He was buried in Saron-sur-Aube. His own creation, La Victoire (Victory) was placed on his grave.
Sculpture Park
We invite the cache hunters to visit the Victor Roman Sculpture Park in Martinis that was established in 2008. The proportional enlargement of the sculptures was carried out by the three-year work of the artist’s brother, Elemér Roman, a construction engineer. The cladding works to protect the statues were provided by the fiberglass technology done by István Farkas, a local entrepreneur. You also find a memorial room with the family furniture in the park. These works of art that are situated on the borderline between the abstract and representational sculpture give a delicate balance with the natural environment. The sculpture entitled Chimera demonstrates Victor Roman’s attraction to nature. In biology the term chimera refers to a genetic mosaic, especially to those organisms which have emerged from more than two gametes. The artist’s devotion to his homeland and the Hungarian people can be detected on numerous works of art. He settled close to Paris in Saron-sur-Aube, which reminded him of his birthplace. In the vicinity of it took place the battle between Attila's Huns and the Romans. We can see the copies of some of the sculptures inspired by this attachment and the spirit of the place in the Sculpture Park: Saron's Bell, Attila's Chariot, Balance, Gate of the Carpathians, and Fountain of the Carpathian Mountains. His childhood experiences also had a great impact on the artist. His father was a farmer and a butcher. The Bull and the Plow refer to these impressions.

Román Viktor (1937-1995)
A székely földműves családból származó művész tehetsége már kisgyermek korától megmutatkozott, ezért szülei a marosvásárhelyi Szépművészeti Gimnáziumba íratták be. Érettségi után 1954-től a bukaresti Nicolae Grigorescu szobrásziskolában tanult, Constantin Baraschi és Ion Murnu osztályában. Felfelé ívelő pályája egyik fontos állomása volt, amikor elhagyta Romániát, és a British Council ösztöndíjával hat hónapot töltött a Royal College of Artban. Itt az angol szobrászat jelentős képviselői gyakoroltak rá nagy hatást. 1968-ban az East Europe Centerben rendezett önálló kiállítással búcsúzott Londontól, és Párizsba utazott. Franciaországban a kezdeti nehézségek ellenére fontos kiállítóhelyeken szerepelt és idővel jelentős díjakkal tüntették ki. 1995-ben rövid betegség után váratlanul halt meg. Saron-sur-Aube-ban temették el. Sírján saját alkotása, a La Victoire (Győzelem) emelkedik.
Szoborpark
A Homoródszentmártonhoz tartozó Bükkfalván található, 2008-ban alapított Román Viktor szoborparkba invitáljuk a ládavadászokat. A szobrok méretarányos nagyítását több mint 3 esztendős munkával a művész testvére Román Elemér építőmérnök végezte el. A burkolati munkákat, a szobrok védelmét Farkas István, udvarhelyi kisvállalkozó üvegszálas műanyag technológiája biztosítja. A parkban egy a családi bútorokkal berendezett emlékszoba is megtekinthető. Az absztrakt és az ábrázoló szobrászat határmezsgyéjén mozgó alkotások kellemesen harmonizálnak a természetes környezettel. A Kiméra címet viselő plasztika Román Viktor természethez való vonzódását bizonyítja. A kiméra fogalma a biológiában genetikai mozaikra utal, ezek közül is azokra az élőlényekre, akik kettőnél több ivarsejtből jöttek létre. A szülőföldjéhez és a magyarsághoz való ragaszkodása számos munkáján észlelhető. Párizs mellett Saron-sur-Aube-ban telepedett le, amely szülőfalujára emlékeztette. A környéken csatároztak az Attila vezette hunok a rómaiakkal. Ez a ragaszkodás és a hely szelleme ihlette szobrai közül a parkban a Saron harangja, Attila szekere, Egyensúly, Kárpátok kapuja, Kárpátok kútja másolatait láthatjuk. A művészre ugyancsak nagy hatással voltak gyermekkori élményei. Édesapja földműves és mészáros volt. A Bika és az Eke című szobrok is ezekre, a benyomásokra utalnak.
Egyéb látnivalók
A parkolótól néhány lépésnyire található Füle-kút a helyiek kedvelt ivóhelye. A szobrok megtekintése után érdemes felkapaszkodni a park fölé magasodó Nyíresbe, a nagyszüleink egyik kedvenc kirándulóhelyére.
