Geocache Description:

The Cache Series: Each of the first four "Codename" cache locations are themed after a major battle, or campaign, from World War II. To unlock the fifth, and final, location you will need to decipher the clues (located in each cache lid) at each cache site. There will be a different clue at each site that coincides with the history lesson in each cache description. Once you decipher the clues you will be left with four letters (don't mess up the order) which will unlock the combination lock to the fifth, final, cache. This is the the SECOND cache in the series and the letter you decipher from the history lesson below will be the second letter in the final combination. (Remember: Don't go to the "finale" until you have the combination; could be a pointless trip)

History Lesson: Operation Stalemate (II) was the official codename given to the Battle of Peleliu which was fought between the United States and the Empire of Japan from September-November of 1944. A battle that was predicted to only last four days ended up lasting longer than two months. On 15 September at 0832, the 1st Marine Division landed on "White" beach while other divisions landed on "Orange" beach. The stiff resistance of the Japanese army and their well-crafted fortifications proved very difficult to the US on the beaches and, in the end, cost us dearly. The Battle of Peleliu was very controversial because of the islands questionable strategic value and the high casualty rate--which was the highest of all the Pacific Campaigns'.

Cache Specific: Driving right up to the cache is possible, if you hate your car. If you like your car and wash it regularly then you will have to endure a short walk along a rough dirt road. Again: Bug spray is advised.
