Looking for something to do as a family that includes science, learning, exercise, and“treasure hunting?”Steve Sewell will teach you all about Global Positioning Systems and the sport of geocaching. Geocaching is a free real-world outdoor treasure hunt that includes using GPS coordinates to locate objects hidden by fellow geocachers.
After an introduction to this sport, participants will go outside to find temporary geocaches around the library. Sewell, an outdoorsmen and professional tech trainer, has facilitated GPS and geocaching programs since 2005 through area parks and recreational departments. This program is free. Feel free to bring your smart phone with a Geocaching app or your hand held GPS device. Coordinates will be provided for some geocaching after the presentation.
Please register at the Pekin Library Adult Services desk, or call 347-7111, ext. 2. (Registration is solely for knowing the number seating and handouts, which may include those new to the sport of Geocaching.)
