Geocache Description:

A cache hidden in Number 1 Doune Carloway.  This has long been abandoned, but has breath-taking views over the sea and loch.

There is a story that the man that lived here had part of his ear bitten off by a rat while he was reading one night.  The house was originally beside where a boat used to cross to the island of Bernera which can be seen from the coast.

Parking beside the loch, and a short trek over some crofts will get you here.  Please respect the highway code, ensuring access gates are firmly closed and left as found (some are tied with rope).  There should be no need to jump fences, but if you feel daring and need a short cut, please be aware of barbed wire!  Decent walking boots or wellies required due to marshy uneven ground.

The cache is NOT hidden in any dry stone walling, therefore please do not move any stones in or on the remaining walls. If taking dogs, please be aware that sheep are present.
