Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Newhaven:
I was at the Sussex Military History Society's Study Day, held annually, at Newhaven Fort on Saturday 24 May 2014 and saw five excellent talks & presentations on WW1 topics; the theme for this year.
One of the presenters, Kevin Gordon, included an aerial photograph of the WW1 Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) at Newhaven.
I have always intended to place a cache here but needed an easy reference point on which to base it.
The attached aerial photo, as shown at the presentation, fits that requirement.
Finding the cache:
To find the cache you need to:
- examine the WW1 RNAS Newhaven photo and find the tall aerial mast;
- establish where the base of the mast is in relation to the rest of the site;
- go to the base of where the mast used to be and count how many metal loops remain there;
-- let the number of loops equal L;
- then search for the cache at:
-- N 50 47. (L-4) (L) (L+2);
-- E 000 03. (L+2) (L+3) (L+2).
You may also wish to look for the Eric Ravilious Coastal Defences (Seaford Bay) cache while you are in the area.
