The Haunting of Kitty Hollow
The killing began on a full moon, less than a fortnight before All Hallows Eve. Rumors of sightings of strange creatures on the edge of the woods spread through the community. Many gave them no credence. Why should they? Nothing like this had ever happened before.
The first victims had gone out for dinner at a local eatery in the shadow of the woodland of Kitty Hollow Park. As they left the restaurant, they heard the sound of howling coming from the trees to the north.
"I think somebody's dog must of got loose from the dog park. Let's see if we can find him", he said.
"Are you sure? The sun has already gone down", she asked.
Unconcerned, he led his family into the darkening timberland to call out to the dog. As they entered, the trees seemed to close in around them. It was as if the woods had suddenly come alive. They realized their error when they heard the deep guttural growls. Only the child managed to escape, though when asked about what happened, she could not give voice to words.
Over the next several nights, rescue parties were organized to search for survivors and kill the evil creatures that have taken over the park. They searched each night, following a seldom used path that led them deeper and deeper into the wildwood. Each night a party went out and each night few, if any, returned. Those that did survive told horrifying accounts of their ordeal. It was not just one creature in these woods. There seemed to be countless numbers of them.
Night Nine, Part 2 - The Plague of the Zombies
The search party had seen their first signs of hope for survivors. The tracker had followed what looked like the footprints of a large group of people walking towards the North. The path led them back into the wooded area of Kitty Hollow Park.
As they approached the area they heard the sounds of people! This was it! There was a large group of people walking about in the clearing. There were dozens of them! At last they had found the survivors!
Then came the smell, so foul that many couldn't prevent gagging. What had happened to these people? They called out to them. The entire group turned toward their would-be rescuers as one and awkwardly walked toward them. Many seemed to have been badly injured; with deep cuts and some missing entire limbs! As they got closer, they recognized the faces: friends and relatives that had gone out with search parties on previous nights.
When they were close enough to see they were actually dead people that were somehow walking, it was already too late. They were surrounded.
Some managed to escape in the chaos. None managed to escape unscathed. When they had returned to their homes to warn their families, their wounds had already begun to fester. They began to die and soon turned into the very creatures that had assualted them. The virus was spreading uncontrollably now. The plague of the zombies had begun!
Welcome to The Zombie Apocalypse!
As your search begins, know that this area is inhabited by creatures both meek and savage. There will be slithery beings with neither arm nor leg, creatures of flight that would feast on your blood, and even plants that would attack you unexpectedly if you are not wary. This journey is not for the small of stature nor faint of heart for dangers await within these woods.
Travel between each location in the series is best done by bike in the grass along the greenway outside the South and West sides of the park but can be done by foot as well.
