Geocache Description:

A 14th century public works project: the aqueduct

The aqueduct system that served the city of Tunanmarca ran 13 kilometers across the countryside. It begins in Lomo Largo, wends its way along the sides of the hills and then along the west side of Tunón hill. During the rainy season, when the aqueduct was full, the people could walk down the hill from their homes to the nearest portion of the aqueduct for their water supply. (In dry season, they had to go all the way to the reservoir.) When an archeological team visited in 2012 to investigate the water system here, they found that this aqueduct was once like a pipe made of stones, covered on top to reduce evaporation. Once you have trained your eye to recognize the aqueduct, see if you can find other sections of it that are visible from the hilltop and the surrounding roads. The cache is a small plastic container.
