Geocache Description:

BFL Boot Camp 8

You will need to use your photography skills in order to get back some embarrassing photos of you.

You have learned that your neighbour Seymour has taken photos of you late at night and you are quite sure he has caught you dressed up as a chipmunk. Yes, not only are you a Geocacher you are also a Furry. While there's nothing wrong with dressing up like animals, your fellow geocachers might not be as liberal minded. You need to get those photos back as soon as possible before they're leaked on geocaching.com!

At the first stage there is a device which Seymour uses to conceal the location of his stash of photos as he is rather forgetful. You will need to use your camera to obtain the coordinates of his stash.

You will require a DSLR camera, a tripod and an external timer or trigger device. Most DSLRs can only take a 30 second exposure without an external trigger and this most likely will not be enough unless you can also use crazy high ISO settings or a fast f/2.8 or f/2.0 lens to reduce the time required.

Once you have the coordinates, put your camera away and go get back your embarrassing photos!

Notes:
  • Point and Shoots and Camera Phones will not work. A smaller sensor and lens does not capture the same number of photons at the same f-stop as a larger sensor.
  • You must keep as much ambient light from the sky from hitting the device as possible as it will reflect off of the unlit segments. Place the device right next to the cedar tree and huddle around it to keep it as dark as possible.
  • If you need/want to reduce the capture time from the recommended you must adjust your ISO and aperture in the same proportions. Too much exposure and the ambient light will hurt the contrast of the segments.
  • The initial sequence of eights is the "ready, set, go". Don't photograph them.
  • If you see the eights again you took too long.
  • Press the button again to restart anytime.
  • Do not remove the batteries when done. It shuts itself off automatically.
