Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Scotland the Quest series. This one is in South Lanarkshire (Siorrachd Lannraig a Deas) which is in the heart of Scotland. The cache itself does not challenge one either physically or mentally but it lies in the Southern Uplands amongst some of the most beautiful rolling hills in the area.

South Lanarkshire borders the south-east of the City of Glasgow and contains many of its suburbs, commuter towns and small villages. However we have chosen to place this cache at the southernmost point of the council area in a little market town called Biggar. Biggar (Bigear) is situated in the Southern Uplands and serves a wide rural area. It has been a royal burgh since 1451 and the main street is lined with centuries old houses whilst the old kirk dates back to the 16th century. One of the towns main attractions is a Victorian puppet theatre and it has many connections with famous Scots including William Wallace, Bonnie Prince Charlie, John Buchan and Hugh McDiarmid. Ideally we would have placed this cache on one of the many hills surrounding this little town but as they all have caches on them we suggest that you sit and admire the hills from ground zero and then go challenge yourself on Tinto Hill or Culter Fell. There is an Ayrshire Mega 2014 geocoin for the FTF in the cache itself.
