This challenge takes you to the chapels of 5 barrios (neighborhoods) in the north half of the town of Marco. The barrios are super important, because each barrio has a dance team that competes in the annual Carnaval Marqueno. The dancers wear traditional clothes in the colors of their barrio. You’ll notice that each chapel has a color scheme: these are the colors the dancers wear. Carnaval Marqueno is in February, and is the biggest event of the year in Marco. The dance itself, “Carnaval Marqueno”, is registered with UNESCO as a world heritage cultural treasure. During the festival, each barrio gathers at its chapel (and chapter house or courtyard if they have them) to practice, pray and celebrate.
Begin at the waypoint listed, S 11 44.051 W 075 33.985. This is the chapel for Barrio San Hilario. (The barrio itself is to the south.) The clues you need to find the next stage can be found by looking at the building:
A= the number of blue balloons painted on the building
B= the numbers of vowels on the front of the building, divided by 2
The next chapel is at S 11 44.12A W 075 33.93B. This is the older chapel for Barrio San Roman. (On your way here, be sure to notice the chapter house for San Roman, which will be on your left. See how happy the dancers are?) At the older San Roman chapel, find the clues for the next stage of this multicache:
C= the number of red balloons painted on the building
D= the total number of letters in the first two words on the chapel
The next stop is at S 11 44.33C W 075 33.73D. This is the chapel and courtyard for Barrio San Isidro Casacucho. Here you can find the next clues:
E=add all the numbers in the dates and divide this sum by 7
F=how many white diamonds are there on the front of the courtyard?
This will take you to Barrio San Roque Chucllush whose chapel and chapter house are at S 11 44.38E W 075 33.90F. Their mascot is the cricket. Look at the chapel for your next clues:
G=how many words are there on the front of the chapel?
H=how many crickets are on the front of the building?
Now you have the information needed to find the final geocache location. It’s in Barrio Hermandad del Senor de Agonia de Limpias at S 11 44.31G W 075 34.09H The cache is a small plastic container. You can see that there are two chapels here, an older one and a newer one. Enjoy the view of the valley from the garden.
