This cache is placed in honour of my brother-in-law, Nigel's, 40th birthday. It was Nigel who introduced me to geocaching in August 2013, when I insisted the whole thing sounded 'weird' and 'boring'.
The cache is called The Port's Mouth for two reasons: One, because you'll find yourself at Bray Harbour (the mouth of the port) when looking for it, and two (more importantly) because Nigel is an avid Portsmouth FC fan.
There is a thriving colony of mute swans in the harbour, along with many ducks and wild geese (which are hard to miss really, as they'll nearly get in to the car with you for a bit of bread!!). If you are going to feed the swans while you're here, be very cautious as the swans can be quite fierce if frightened; geokids should be supervised and geohounds should be kept a distance away. Also, as the signs say, try to make sure the swans stay on the sand while you're feeding them - they have no road sense!
Also located at the harbour is the gym where Gold Olympic medal winner Katie Taylor trains (currently being renovated at the time of publication). Katie won gold at the 2012 summer Olympics in London, becoming the first ever Olympic female lightweight boxing champion.
The cache is a magnetic micro with just room for a logbook so please bring your own pen to sign the log. Please be careful retrieving and replacing the cache, as it can be a muggle intensive area, particularly in good weather.
The cache is a short walk from both Bray town and Bray DART station. There is ample parking nearby (please check nearby signs as some areas are pay & display at certain times).
Happy 40th birthday Nigel!!!
*Congrats to AbbeyAckbar for FTF!!*
