Geocache Description:

CHURCH MICRO 4987 ... Meppershall

Currently a magnetic nano which only contains a logbook, please remember to bring your pen.

The cache is placed with a view of the church, parking is recommended at the church. Please be aware that the cache is slightly overlooked so stealth is required

The church is dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin.

Posistioned at the top of the village, it was originally a Norman building with a lot of restoration by successive generations. It is situated amid earth works and fortifications from very early times.

It is thought that the present church was built over the years with different generations adding to the original building. The nave was completely rebuilt in 1875 and the North and South transepts were restored in 1972-4.

Inside the church is a 12th century font, apparently the bowl is Saxon in origin (It is also where one of our mini cachers was christened!)

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
