Geocache Description:

Having enjoyed the ‘Famous Berkshire Residents’ and ‘Distinguished Residents of Buckinghamshire’ puzzle series, we were surprised to find that, as far as we can tell, there has until now been no equivalent series for Oxfordshire.  We hope that this puzzle will encourage the development of a new series for Oxfordshire.

The listed coordinates are not for the cache, but it is a good place to park.  The coordinates for the cache can be found by working through the following clues and questions relating to the subject of this puzzle “Person X”.

Person X was born in the West Country, where their father was a teacher at the nearby cathedral school.

Person X lived in Oxfordshire for the last thirty-two years of their life.

Person X is probably best known for their novels, short stories and children’s books, some of which were best-sellers for more than forty years in the UK and US.

Person X had eleven novels published between 1934 and 1970, one of which was made into a film in the UK.  Another was released as a Hollywood movie (under a slightly different name).

It is said that the book from which the UK film was adapted was the childhood favourite of another world-famous children’s author.

The cache can be found at N51 AB.CDE W000 FG.HJK, where:

A = The year that Person X’s tenth novel was published (196A)
B = The year that that Person X’s fourth novel was published (194B).
C = The year that Person X’s sixth novel was published (194C).
D = The day of the month that Person X died (D of April).
E = The number of letters in the first word in the title of the novel that was adapted into a Hollywood movie.
F = One of Person X’s novels was based on a dream/vision that they had about an earlier resident of the cottage in which they were living when that novel was published in 19F8.
G = The year (200G) that the Blue Plaque was erected at the cottage where Person X died.
H = The year that Person X moved to Peppard, South Oxfordshire (195H).
J = The year that Person X’s father took up a professorship at Oxford (192J).
K = The year that one of Person X’s novels was released as a UK film (200K).
