This cache has been placed for the GAG21 event which begins at 6:00 PM on May 9, 2014. Please do not search for the cache before that time. If you do, you will earn the scorn of your fellow cachers, who may send a balrog around to your door.
As any LOTR aficionado can tell you, the Three Rings were forged by the Elves of Eregion, and other than the One Ring itself, are the most powerful of the twenty Rings of Power. To complete this little quest, you'll have to find three much more humble rings, though they do represent a very modest bit of power.
Begin your quest at the posted coordinates, which are a good place to park (without blocking the pathway, of course). There is nothing to see here, but take note of the coordinates, as you'll be needing them soon. Head straight down the pathway, to the northeast. After exactly 138 strides (you do stride in metric, don't you?), you should find yourself by the first ring. The ring contains several objects, but only one of them appears twice. Convert the name of this object to a two-digit number (use the usual convention of A=1, B=2, ... and sum the result). Call this number A. Now add (5A + 6) to the decimal minutes of the latitude, and subtract (A - 5) from the decimal minutes of the longitude. You now have the coordinates of the next waypoint. Proceed there to find the next ring.
The second ring is made up of a number of discrete objects. Call this two-digit number B. Now add (2B - 4) to the decimal minutes of the latitude, and add (6B - 4) to the decimal minutes of the longitude. Make sure you use the coordinates of this waypoint in your calculations. You now have the coordinates of the next waypoint. Proceed there to find the third ring.
There are actually two rings at this waypoint - you want the one on the left. Convert the object shown in the ring (7 letters) to a two-digit number, and call it C. The end of your quest is now only a ring-toss away! Do a projection from this point of (C - 30) meters and (C - 6) degrees true. Now, go claim your prize!
The cache is a small lock 'n lock in a location that should be winter accessible - see the hint if you have any difficulty spotting it. Only a minor bushwhack is needed to reach it - it's best to approach it from the east. Please take care to restore the camo before you leave. Enjoy!
