Geocache Description:

Come for a social geo-gamble at Mt Hotham. The purpose of the event is to attract geo-trekkers from different regions of southeastern Australia, who may meet for the first time or renew their acquaintance. This event celebrates Australian high-country geocaching. Share your stories about alpine caching treks and regional experiences.

Attend for the day or stay the weekend! GZ is at Marouka Lodge, a 28-bed ski club lodge established in the 1970s.

The official event time is Saturday from 4 pm to 5 pm. Make sure you have signed the event log to gamble for FTF, farthest-travelled and other prizes. Please log your intention to attend.

Enroute you can go for easy finds along the Great Alpine Road from Harriettville to Dinner Plain, or take on the challenges of the backcountry (on foot, no 4WDs permitted).

It is always a gamble to plan an event at Mt Hotham. The snowpack should be gone, but even in late spring the weather can alternate quickly between warm sunshine and cold sleet. Prepare yourselves for all conditions. Be careful out there.

We have full use of the lodge for the weekend, including its loungeroom, kitchen and verandah. If you would like to stay overnight, the lodge caters for 28 guests in eight bedrooms. One of the COs will be onsite from Thursday evening until Monday morning. There is a fully-outfitted kitchen, so bring your own food to prepare. Please bring your own towels, bedding and no bedbugs. Park either on the main road in front of the lodge, or at the rear via the access road next to Arco/Jack Frost. Beds will be pre-allocated, so after logging your intended attendance, please send an email to Clickcraftsman to get booked in. At the lodge, he needs to collect $25 per person per night for the ski club.
