Geocache Description:

[ENG] Rezekne Culture House is an establishment that provides the implementation of different national celebrations, the creative activities, the traditional culture events, the preservation of culture and art values as well as possibilities to relax.

Rezekne Culture House has ancient and rich history. In 1925 in Rezekne the Latvian Society “Tautas pils” has been founded and its members started to run the building in the place where there is the present Rezekne Culture House. From 1928 to 1929 the building had been renovated by the sketches of architect Pavlov. There was the Latgalian theatre and mixed choir, also the library, the reading hall, the nice hall for the theatre performances and other events, next to it there was the society’s club. The remarkable theatre directors, actors and artists as well as lifelong theatre director Antons Varslavāns worked there.

In the April 1944 the “Tautas pils” was ruined during the bombardment. It was the first public building that was renewed after the war. Rezekne inhabitants took part in renewal coming to help after the work and in their free time. After the renewal, it was renamed to Rezekne Culture House where the Latgale Drama Theatre, choir and different groups of interest were functioning.

The biggest activities still take place in Rezekne Culture House; it is the place where everyone who wants to act, express and develop oneself is waited for.

Rezekne Culture House is a culture monument protected by the state, it is attended by 60 000 people annually, there work 21 employees, 14 groups of interest (all together 460 participants from 3 to 85 years of age).
