We’ll plan to meet along the shore of Lake Lincoln at 8am (CST) (just follow your GPSr to the posted coordinates…there’s plenty of parking nearby). There is a group of large rocks that sit about halfway between the Lakeside Shelter and the boat ramp. We’ll meet there to sign the log, chat, and grab supplies. We’ll have trash bags and gloves on hand.
There are a couple of options for those who attend this year’s CITO event. If you enjoy hiking, we’ll be hitting the trail around Lake Lincoln to clear the trails and pick up trash near the shore. If you prefer to boat, you can paddle around the edge of Lake Lincoln, helping to clean up the shoreline from your boat!
For those who wish to boat, there are a few boats available to rent at the park. Just check with the park when you get there. If you want to bring your own boat, you’ll need to make sure you have an annual permit sticker for your boat. They’re available at the park, and they’re $5 for a non-motorized boat and $22 for a motorized boat (trolling motors only - no gas engines!).
So come join us to do a good deed in a historic area. Abe himself used to swim in Lake Lincoln, although back then he just called it “that lake over yonder.” Legend has it he also built the world’s first birchbark canoe to traverse the lake to get to the other side. Of course, some of these facts may not be entirely truthful, but you can ask Abe yourself this weekend. He traditionally hangs out most of the day Saturday!
After we clean up around Lake Lincoln for a couple of hours, stick around for more caching fun later in the day! Remember: There are OVER 600 Geocaches within a 25-mile radius of Lincoln State Park. So come on down and join us for a fun-filled weekend of Geocaching!
See ya soon!
