The Old schoolhouse in Bantry is a testiment to former more prosperous times. It was constructed in 1887 and eventually closed on 31st December 1947. Pupils now take the daily ferry to the mainland. A complete history of the schoolhouse can be found here. From the Bank House pub turn right and head up the road for about 150 meters. You will meet a turn to the right. Take this turn, the schoolhouse is approx 200 meters up this road on the right hand side.Be aware that this is s derelict building with easy access so caution is advised with younger children. The cache is not hidden inside the building so there is no need to enter the building itself. Walk up the small grass path.
Once back at Bank house you can relax with tea/coffee or pint before your trip home on the ferry.
