Geocache Description:

:) Cache (small size box) is located in the “Strazdumuižas” park which is rich with old trees. Look closely, maybe you will find a local starling who will “wink” you. :)

At the side of the “Jugla” there is a special place, just like a separate world – “Strazdumuiža” (“Starlingmanor”). At this place, history and nowadays blend together. This place has its own rhythm and people, and things here are a little bit different from the rest of the rushing city. By the way, this actually is the home for many starlings which every spring happily tweet about the beginning of the warm weather.

Essential part of the “Strazdumuiža” is the nearby park. In year 1790, on the land of the manor, an English style garden was made in honor of Dorothy von Fromhold. This park was very popular place to hang out for the locals. In 1820’s the manor became property of Theodor Pychlau. Many think that the place lost its charm because of the cotton spinning and dying manufacture, but in favor for the Pychlau, he also founded a school for visually impaired in year 1877 just from his own funds, which is still running.
