The Dutch Fort
|
A special place in Galle to visit is the Dutch Fort. The Dutch captured Galle from the Portugese in 1640. They expanded the fortifications to protect their trading interests. The street plan and the bastions survived to this day. It's wonderfull to walk through the low-rise colonial streets to see the old villas, with many street-facing verandas and wooden doors and windows still intact.
So enjoy this atmospheric part of Sri Lanka with a relaxing walk.
