Geocache Description:

Welcome to Cenote Tanimax near the Village of Sabacche.  This cache is NOT located inside the actual cenote, but nearby.  The access road from Sabacche to the cache is a good single lane dirt road.  The cool shade of the forest and the refreshing water of the cenote will give you “blessed relief” from the Mexican sun.  This particular cenote is quite different than others.  It is more of a “crack in the earth” in excess of 75metres.  Cenote access is excellent via good sturdy stairs.  There is a palapa picnic area and rustic changing area for your convenience.  If you are a cyclist, there is a bicycle trail directly across the road from the cenote.

Note that the Hint and Photos contain spoilers.

What is a Cenote?  A cenote (Maya = dzonot ) is a natural sinkhole created after limestrone bedrock collapses exposing the water underneath.  There are various types of cenotes . . . land level (similar to a pond), open well, semi-underground or completely underground.  The ancient Maya sometimes used cenotes for their water source, ceremonies, or sacrificial offerings.
