Dock Butte Lookout was built in 1935 but was burned down in 1964. (Kind of ironic for a fire lookout!) Although there is not much to look at of the remains of the tower there is plenty to look at on the way and once you get to the top! This little hike packs a lot of bang for your buck.
With a round trip distance of 4 miles and an elevation gain of 1400 feet, Dock Butte is an easy climb offering truly spectacular 360 degree views of the Baker lake region. From the former lookout vantage point one can see a good number of the big ones like Baker, Shuksan, The Twin Sisters, Blum, Bacon, Glacier Peak and even Mt. Rainier! Far below is Baker Lake but Mt. Baker itself is the star of the show with the immense Easton Glacier in your face. If all this isn't enough, a short side trail goes to Blue Lake, a small scenic lake in a cirque.
For the hide: If you choose the easier trail to the right, go all the way up to the top using it. Then go down the steeper trail for a short distance to find the cache.
