A geocache hidden in the centre of Eildon in Central Victoria. This site also acts as a Travel Bug Hotel.
Located at Eildon in the Shire of Murrindindi with a population of around 1,100 people. Found on the edge of the Blue Range and on the banks of the Goulburn River and Lake Eildon National Park. It is 24 km from Alexandra, 60 km from Jamieson and 142 km from Melbourne on the Goulburn Valley Highway.
Originally inhabited by aborigines and first settled by white farmers in the 1830s with the area being named 'Eildon' after Eildon Hills in Scotland. Eildon took part in the 1860's gold rush and in 1926 the area above Eildon was flooded by the first dam (Sugarloaf) and in 1959 by the second larger dam (Big Eildon Project). In 1997 the 2,670 hectare Fraser National Park and the 24,000 hectare Lake Eildon National Park were combined into the Lake Eildon National Park.
