A geocache hidden along Campagnolos Road near Howes Creek.
Howes Creek is located in the Mansfield Shire with a population of around 300 people. It is 33 km from Bonnie Doon, 17 km from Mansfield, and 105 km from Eildon (via the Maroondah Highway).
Howes Creek is a newer settlement with little known history. It is located on the eastern bank of Lake Eildon and is a satellite settlement close to the larger township of Mansfield. Mansfield has a population of around 4,500 people and was originally known as Mount Battery when first surveyed in 1851. The town was established thanks to gold found locally in the mid 1850s. The Mansfield Post Office was first opened in 1858. The township was later renamed Mansfield after Mansfield in the Shire of Nottingham, England. Mansfield is also linked to the history of bushranger Ned Kelly and the Kelly Gang. The gang once roamed the area and took the lives of three Mounted Police Officers 26 October 1878 at Stringy Bark Creek a short drive from Mansfield.
