Almost 10 years to this day I excitedly set out with my new GPSr to Blackrock Park, having recently read about an exciting hobby called Geocaching.
I made my way to the location focusing hard on the arrow on my screen. When I got there, I sat down on the bench and searched in the nearby hedge for quite a while before retrieving a lunchbox filled with goodies. I swapped some items and then excitedly rang a friend to tell him about it. We then set off to the nearest cache in Marlay Park.
It's now 2015, and it's hard to believe I've been doing this so long. The changes in the game have been huge, most noticeably in quantity: there were less than 200 caches on the entire island when I started, and there are now over 7000. Technology has come a long way too, as anyone who has used a yellow eTrex with a cache page print out will know.
This gives me an excuse to hold an informal event to discuss things caching-related (and not). Join me for some chat, food and drinks. The venue has ample parking and is accessible from the N11. We will be meeting from 18:30 to around 20:30
