WHAT : Geocaching CITO event
WHEN : 25th of April 2015 8 am until lunchtime (around 1 pm)
WHY : Just for the fun of it!
WHERE : Paddling from Herring Island up the Yarra and cleaning up rubbish in the river.
- You have to bring or borrow some kind of watercraft.
- Since you go by boat you have to have a PFD.
- Bring your own rubbish-bag and figure out how you can use it while on the water.
Meet and Greet
The event will start at 8 am at the coordinates. From 9am onwards we'll paddle up the Yarra, collect the ugly stuff which got entangled in the river banks and after that we'll float back to the island. The whole trip is about 12 km paddle so we will be on the water a couple of hours. For this one you will need a kayak, canoe, tinny or something similar. A dinghy won't work. Jet-Skis aren't allowed.
On Herring Island is a BBQ and some benches and tables. There will be no food provided and the last time I checked there wasn't a kiosk on the Island *gg* so remember to BYO food and other gear.
Unfortunately we will pass a lot of rubbish along the way so why not collect it and put it into the rubbish traps which are set-up along the way by Parks Victoria.

CITO Weekend is April 24th to 27th
CITO weekend will be here before you know it. In case you haven’t heard, CITO stands for Cache In Trash Out. It’s the geocacher’s approach to keeping our game board (i.e. the entire planet) in great shape.
Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other geocache-friendly places around the world. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!
