Geocache Description:

Church of All Hallows - Almondbury A Simple off set multi ..

The church of All Hallows, Almondbury is an ancient structure in the Early English and Perpendicular styles, consisting of chancel with chapels, nave, aisles, south porch and a lofty embattled western tower with pinnacles, containing a clock and 8 bells. The chancel is Early English dating from 1220, the chantries on either side of it are Perpendicular. One of them which was founded by the Kayes, of Woodsome Hall, now belongs to the Earl of Dartmouth and is fitted and used for week-day services. The other, founded by the Beaumonts, is the property of E.F. Beaumont esq., of Whitley. In the chancel is an incised slab to a member of the Kaye family dated 1574. There are several ancient brasses to the families of Fenay and Netherton, and one to the Rev. Canon Charles Augustus Hulbert M.A., vicar here 1867-88. The font has a very handsome cover, Within the church, immediately below the roof, are inscribed a number of rhyming verses descriptive of the Passion of Our Lord, composed by Gaffer Dyson in 1522. There are two stained windows to members of the Kaye family, placed by Lord Dartmouth, and one to George Armitage esq. The east window and several others are also stained. The church has been thoroughly restored since 1873, at a cost of about £10,500, of which Sir. J.W. Ramsden bart., contributed £2,300. There are 600 sittings. The registers date from the year 1557, and are tolerably complete.
