This cache is located adjacent to Memorial Park in New Kensington, PA. The entrance to the park is right next to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. If you’re heading South on 366 (at that point,) turn left immediately after the interchange. Memorial Park is rather small, but it’s a nice local place for the kids to play, and it has a creek as a bonus. Unfortunately one of our diehard teammates, Kayla, hates this place since dogs are not allowed here.
I would not recommend you scale the hill to see what’s at the top. The boys and I did this, and found a lot of trash near the top, then apartments. This was not what we expected. I recommend that you begin the hunt from the parking lot. It is possible to begin above the cache, but the intention was to bring you up from the bottom, through some very nice forested areas, not down through broken glass. We followed the thin trails for a majority of the hike, however they weren’t always connected. The boys ( 7 & 9 ) made the climb to the very top with only minor complaints from the 7-year-old, so making it to the cache is not that bad. Also, we didn’t see poison ivy while we were there, but you never know! Pardon me while I scratch my legs…
The cache is in a green ammo box. Please re-hide it when you’re done since I don’t know how well traveled this area is. Enjoy!
See if you can find the two interesting trees in the images. We call the first one “Bear tree” since I would point out the bear to the boys when we would hike here, and they would shoot at it with twigs. It’s an easy find since you’ll see it near the beginning. The second one we found while scouting for a cache area. If you can’t find them, here are the locations:
