This is the 3rd oldest (and active) geocache in Ontario and the 13th in Canada!
Located just metres off of the Swift Rapids road.
The Swift Marsh is on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield in Ontario.
It is very popular with 4x4 offroaders, mountain bikers, duck hunters, upland game hunters, deer hunters, etc. Rocks, trees and beaver ponds abound.
Depending on the time of year, you will very likely see ducks and Canada geese. You may see ruffed grouse or deer.
At the end of the 14 km bush road leading through the Marsh is the Swift Rapids, known to sailors of the Trent-Severn system as Lock# 43 and home of the Swift Rapids Generating Plant of the Orillia Water, Light and Power Commission.
Seekers of this cache should not consider using their family sedan, as the bush road is quite rough. This is a cache for 4x4’s.
If you wish to go armed with the appropriate topo map, as well as your GPS, then obtain map 31D/13 Penetanguishene. You’ll find the start of the bush road in the southeast corner of this map. N.B. The cache is placed in an area where an ordinary 4-wheel drive SUV can manage. However, be aware that this is rough terrain and you may wish to be adequately equipped with extraction devices should you make a wrong turn. (Important caveat: In April, washouts are common.) In the summer, the road is quite passable for cars and mountain bikes. Boaters stopping at the lock can expect a hike of about 900 metres.
The cache is a round, clear Rubbermaid container holding the requisite notepad, pencil and geocache welcome note. Good luck.
Why not stop and check out the other caches along the way? "Off Roaders Dream" (GCDD6) and of course "43 and the Generation Station"(GC18D4D) are both great caches!
There is also the "Final" of the "Wrangler Series" caches (GCNWZV), but you'll need to complete the series to locate that particular cache.
This cache has been placed by a Central Ontario Geocacher!
