JANELA MANUELINA DA RIBEIRA GRANDE
A “Janela Manuelina” remonta ao século XVI. Pertencia à antiga Casa da Câmara e é um outro ex-libris da cidade da Ribeira Grande. Trata-se de uma janela geminada, que contém um friso renascentista, em baixo relevo na pedra.
DESCRIÇÃO: Janela manuelina situada no piso superior de um edifício de dois pisos. Destaca-se a moldura da janela propriamente dita e um friso retangular, alongado, ao nível do avental.
A moldura tem o contorno exterior, retangular, delimitado por um toro que, nas ombreiras, simula colunelos com capitéis. No interior é dividida por um mainel torso onde se apoiam dois arcos de volta inteira que contêm elementos decorativos trilobados. A moldura exterior é decorada, no extradorso das ombreiras e no parapeito, com motivos florais em baixo-relevo. O lintel, onde se inserem os arcos, tem uma decoração mais complexa mas muito afetada pela erosão. No friso está representada uma ave ladeada por dois dragões em relevo.
A moldura e o friso são em cantaria à vista. O mainel é de madeira pintada da cor da pedra. A janela, de duas folhas, tem os caixilhos e o peitoril em madeira pintada de branco.
ESTILO MANUELINO
O Estilo manuelino, por vezes também chamado de gótico português tardio ou flamejante, é um estilo decorativo, escultórico e de arte móvel que se desenvolveu no reinado de D. Manuel I e prosseguiu após a sua morte, ainda que já existisse desde o reinado de D. João II. É uma variação portuguesa do Gótico final, bem como da arte luso-mourisca ou arte mudéjar, marcada por uma sistematização de motivos iconográficos próprios, de grande porte, simbolizando o poder régio. Incorporou, mais tarde, ornamentações do Renascimento italiano. O termo "Manuelino" foi criado por Francisco Adolfo Varnhagen na sua Notícia Histórica e Descritiva do Mosteiro de Belém, de 1842. O Estilo desenvolveu-se numa época propício da economia portuguesa e deixou marcas em todo o território nacional.

“MANUELINA” WINDOW FROM RIBEIRA GRANDE
The "Manueline Window" dates back to the sixteenth century. Belonged to the former Town Hall and is another landmark of the city of Ribeira Grande. It is a semi-detached window, which contains a Renaissance frieze in low relief in stone.
DESCRIPTION: Manueline window in the upper floor of a two-storey building. There is the window frame itself and a rectangular frieze, elongated at the apron level.
The frame has the outer contour, rectangular, bordered by a torus that the posts simulates small columns with capitals. Inside it is divided by a mullion torso where it supports two rounded arches that contain decorative elements trilobados. The outer frame is decorated in the upper surface of the shoulder pads and the railing with floral motifs in bas-relief. The lintel, which fall within the arches, has a more complex decor but very affected by erosion. In the frieze are represented a bird flanked by two dragons in relief.
The frame and the skirt are made of stone in sight. The mullion is painted wood color of the stone. The window of two sheets, has the frames and sill wood painted white.
MANUELINE STYLE
The Manueline style, sometimes also called Gothic Portuguese late or flaming is a decorative, sculptural and mobile art style that developed in the reign of King Manuel I and continued after his death, although existed since the reign of D. João II. It is a Portuguese variation of the late Gothic and the Luso-Moorish art or Mudejar art, marked by a systematization of own iconographic motifs, large, symbolizing royal power. Incorporated, later, ornamentations of the Italian Renaissance. The term "Manueline" was created by Francisco Adolfo Varnhagen in his Historical and Descriptive News of Belém Monastery, 1842. The style was developed at a time enabling the Portuguese economy and left its mark on the entire national territory.
