Geocache Description:

Zaklad je posvečen slovenskemu državnemu prazniku - dnevu vrnitve Primorske k matični domovini, ki ga praznujemo 15. septembra.

This cache is dedicated to Slovene national holiday - Day of Restoration of the Littoral Region to the Motherland which is on 15th September.

We celebrate this holliday on 15th September when The Treaty of Peace with Italy came into general effect (1947). According to this treath the major part of the Littoral Region became part of former Yugoslavia.

The Peace Treaties were signed on Febraury 10 1947 by the winners of the WWII on one side and loosers of the WWII on other side as conclusion od peace conferenc held in Paris, France (27th July - 15th October 1946). The Peace Treaty between Italy and Yugoslavia came into effect on 15th September 1947. With signing of the treaties could defeated countries asume the roles of souvereign countries and ask for memberhip in UN.
Trities established the war reparations, the rights of the minorities, settled territorial changes and ended the Italian empire. All countries have also committed themselves to preventing the revival of fascist organizations and all other "political, military or para-military (organizations) whose objective is to violate the democratic rights of the people."

With signing the treaty with Yogoslavia got Slovenian Littoral, Istria, Zadar and the Adriatic islands. Italy also had to pay a war indemnity of 125,000,000 US$. (source: Wikipedia)

Yugoslav delegation was led by Edvard Kardelj. They suggested ethnic princip, Trieste was suggested as seventh Yugoslav republic. Suggestions for defferals were also prebared by other countries. On the disputed areas were constantly held manifestations under the slogan 'We don't want foreign, we dont give our' for connection to Yougoslavia. They decided for French suggestion which offered the most compromise solution. Italy got Veneto, Resia, Gorizia and Val Canale. Yugoslavia got almost all Littoral Region, Istria with Reka, all islands and Zadar with sorroundings. From part of Istria and Trieste was established Free Teritory of Trieste (FTT), which was divided to Zone A under Anglo-American administration (Trieste with surroundings) and Zone B under Yougoslav administration (with seat in Koper and territory to Novigrad). FTT was supposed to be demilitarized zone under administration of Guvernor but both Countries couldn't agree who would lead it. So this territory was one of the first crises of cold war. In the 1954 FTT was devided between Yugoslavia and Italy with London Treaty.
