Geocache Description:

This Cache is located on Low Island, located 16km NE of Port Douglas.  Access is via kayak (for the experienced kayaker in calm weather), sailing, and private boat. Day trips are also offered commercially from Port Douglas by a number of operators.

Snorkeling around the Island reefs is fantastic and well worth the visit, with an abundance of marine turtles and soft corals.

Low Isles is comprised of Low Island (a coral cay) and Woody Island (a mangrove island) and is within a marine park green zone. The light station on Low Island was built in 1878 and is heritage listed.  Access to Low Island is restricted to between sunrise and sunset and Woody Island is closed from September to April for bird nesting.  The Isles are a bird nesting habitat, supporting approximately 35,000 Pied Imperial Pigeons, 300 Bridled Terns, Osprey, and breeding populations of threatened Roseate Terns and Black Naped Terns.

The paths on the island are well defined and to protect the seabird nesting, island management do not permit walking off the paths.  You do not need to leave the path to access the cache.

The journey from Port Douglas will take one hour by sail and 30 minutes by motor vessel.

The cache is a regular sized sistema container with plenty of room for swaps.  The first few to find will gain a Geocacher minifigure.
