This cache is located close to the little-known and seldom-visited
Oaks Point Lookout which offers a great view of Packsaddle Gap, the
gorge of the Conemaugh River through Chestnut Ridge. It is on State
Gamelands #153 in Indiana County approximately four miles east of
Blairsville, PA. The suggested starting point for hiking to the
cache is from Oaks Point Road at the entrance to a gated emergency
access road. Hike in on this road until you locate the Oaks Point
Resort at the top of a small hill. You may want to stop here for a
swim in the pool ;). Note that the diving board has been removed
for liability reasons. From this point, your best bet is to follow
your GPS to the cache and Oaks Point. It is also possible to get
there via the ATV trails but it's a longer route. The cache is,
appropriately enough, in a hollow oaks (sic) tree so don't be
sticking your hands in and around any rocks and find a rattlesnake
instead. The viewpoint is about 50 yards down (south) from the
cache location. Enjoy!
Note: This cache is located on Pennsylvania State
Gamelands. During the peak deer season (November 15 - December 15,
except Sundays), you must "wear a minimum of 250 square
inches of daylight fluorescent orange-colored material on the head,
chest and back combined or, in lieu thereof, a hat of the same
colored material. The material shall be worn so it is visible in a
360° arc".
