Crossing the Ahukawakawa Swamp (Taranaki) Traditional Cache

Part of the Egmont National Park Pouakai Circuit, the Ahukawakawa Track follows a boardwalk across Ahukawakawa Swamp. This cache is where the track crosses the headwaters of the Stony River/Hangatahua.

An easy cache if you're doing the Pouakai Circuit, but a bit of a walk of at least 10km one-way if you're just after the cache

It's under the bridge abutment.
I figure if you're going to this much trouble to find and log the cache, the last thing you need is a DNF.

Be Prepared for any weather! As with all 'tramping' trips into New Zealand's back country it is important to plan and prepare your trip and be well equipped.

5. Take sufficient supplies and consider taking a personal locator beacon

This cache is in an alpine environment. Weather on the mountain changes rapidly. You must be well prepared with suitable clothing and equipment for all weather and conditions.
