In the symbolism of funerary monuments, a broken column represents a life cut short. These monuments can commonly be found in large 18th century cemeteries such as Cincinnati's Spring Grove. The broken columns can be seen with other symbols, as shown in the photos below.
Find a burial monument with a broken column in a cemetery and post a photo of the monument and your GPSr. Include in your post the coordinates, the name of the cemetery and any information you can find about the person buried there.
As of 10-14-02 broken columns from 29 states have been logged, as well as from 3 from outside the U.S. (Sweden, U.K., Australia, and Germany.)
