I was out for a hike today on the very recently opened trail to Mindego Hill and saw that a 0.4 mile "extension" from the end of the original Mindego Hill Trail is also open. Not sure if that section of trail has a name since the Mindego Hill Trail now routes up to the top of the hill, but the trail leads to an interesting place. I found a related statement in a 2008 MidPen OSD news letter that relates:
"The public is already visiting Mindego Hill with MROSD on docent-led hikes, and POST is planning the Council Circle at Mindego Meadow—a gathering place for visitors—where we will honor donors who made major gifts to the GoMindego campaign and other projects."
According to the nearby sign, the Circle was dedicated in 2009. Not sure how much it is actually used, but it is worth a visit. Note: See ChipnDonna's note log of 4/5/16 for more on the circle.
I was also a little surprised to see a porta-potty at the very end of the trail, although it is not on the park maps so maybe it isn't open all the time.
The hike to here from the parking on Alpine Road is about 4 miles RT. Please respect OSP hours of sunrise to 1/2 hour past sunset.
