Geocache Description:

Legend has it there is a chest hidden somewhere in Cruden Bay that is packed full of treasure. Whoever hid the chest really didn’t want anybody to find the booty and the only way to discover its location is to solve the cryptic Cruden Bay history clues. But this is a chest with a twist…

Once you have acquired the coordinates the only way to gain access to the treasure chest is to learn the basic technique of lock picking, so I would strongly advise doing some research before attempting this cache. All the necessary tools are available within the cache to open the chest. I have also left a clear plastic training lock which allows you to see the pins move as you practice and hone your skills. You will be nicely rewarded if you manage to break into this chest.

Please be patient and careful with the tools so not to break them and ENSURE THE CACHE IS WELL HIDDEN to prevent it being found by passers-by as it is very large. Due to the amount of time that may be required to open the lock this is recommended as a fair weather cache.

Going to the posted coordinates will not help you solve the puzzle. I had to move the cache from its original location because it was muggled but I wanted to leave the puzzle unchanged as it works well with the theme of the overall cache. For this reason I have added some extras steps below to obtain the updated coordinates.

N57 Y.(ZW)-21 W001 F.(D)-51

Croch Dain

A four wheeled approach is the easiest….

A = King, B = Thousands & hundreds, C = tens & units

A, B, C = X1 and X2

Y = (X1 x X2) x 4

Z = He built a prominent landmark and conspired with the Spanish

W = During this month the tram line finally came to an end

F = A Gran old time (min) ÷ 5

A historic moment has been symbolised in two different materials. Use the Clue.

D = lbin3 (2 d.p.) x 2000

SUBSTITUTE THE NUMBERS COLLECTED INTO THE COORDINATES ABOVE AND THEN SUBTARCT THE RELEVANT NUMBERS BEFORE CHECKING YOUR SOLUTION.

Feel free to contact me if you are struggling with solving the coordinates.
