Geocache Description:

The phrase "Seeing the Elephant" began to be commonly used by the hundreds of thousands of emigrants and gold seekers who made the difficult and perilous 2000 mile covered wagon journey to California between 1841 and 1869. It referred to the challenges, terrible hardships, and life-threatening dangers they faced during their long three month journey and in the gold fields that were difficult to describe.

ADA compliant trails allow easy access to a great area for visitors. Be sure to explore, but be respectful of the area. No need to leave the trail for this one. This cache is placed with permission but is only available during posted hours at the California Trail Interpretive Center. Take time to visit the Center and see the elephant! For more information, visit http://www.californiatrailcenter.org/.

Be sure to place the cache container back exactly as you found it to avoid drawing the attention of the many, many muggles who visit this amazing site. There was another cache on this trail that had to be archived because it had so many issues in a high-muggle zone. Hopefully, this one will be able to survive much longer for cachers to enjoy as they visit the Trail Center.
