Geocache Description:

DK: Denne cache er en hyldest til Gråstenæblet, som er en af de ældste danske æblesorter.

UK: This cache is a tribute to the Gravenstein apple, which is one of the oldest apple varieties in Denmark.

DK: Gråstenæblet blev bragt til Danmark af Frederik Ahlefeldt omkring 1700 tallet og stammoderen står stadigvæk i Gråsten Slotshave. Gråstenæblet blev i 2005 officielt kåret til Danmarks nationalfrugt. I bogen ”Gråstenæblet - et kerneeventyr” af den lokale forfatter Bente Løwe Christiansen kan man sågar læse, at Steve Jobs muligvis fandt på navnet Apple Computer efter at have beskåret Gråstenæbletræer på en plantage i USA. Æbleskulpturen blev indviet i 2015 ved åbningen af Gråsten Æblefestival. Både Gendarmstien og Alnorstien (skiltet med et rødt æble) går forbi denne cache.

UK: The Gravenstein apple was brought to Denmark by Frederik Ahlefeldt around year 1700 and the rootstock is still standing in the garden of Gråsten Castle. The Gravenstein apple was officially named the national fruit of Denmark in 2005. In the book ”Gråstenæblet - et kerneeventyr” by the local author Bente Løwe Christiansen you can read how Steve Jobs might how come up with the name Apple Computer after having cropped Gravenstein apple trees on a plantation in USA. The apple sculpture was inaugurated in 2015 at the opening of the apple festival in Gråsten. Both the Gendarm-path and the Alnor-path (red apple sign) passes by this cache.
