A simple cache & dash at Cwmbran railway station. This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website
About Cwmbran Station
Up until the middle of the 20th century the Cwmbran area had two main railway lines and a handful of stations including those at Upper Pontnewydd, Lower Pontnewydd, Llantarnam, Pontrhydyrun Halt and Cwmbran (now called Old Cwmbran). A combination of the Beeching cuts, the loss of heavy industry and the removal of the Eastern Valley Line ensured that all these stations were closed by 1980.
In 1986 a new modern station was opened at the present location to serve the growing number of commuters working in Newport & Cardiff plus the many shoppers visiting the near-by Cwmbran shopping centre. Cwmbran, a designated 'New Town', had rail passenger services once again.
The cache is not intended to be difficult and you should be able to pull up right next to it even at the busiest times. It's a high muggle area so the cache is rather basic. (This cache replaces the previous SideTracked - Cwmbran which was archived in March 2015 so feel free to log this one even if you found the last one).
Congratulations to SparkyMarky77 for the first to find.
