Introduzione
Circa dodicimila anni fa le acque meteoriche, aiutate anche dalla presenza di acido carbonico, crearono incisioni sulla scaglia dove poi le acque di scorrimento superficiale, ricche di frammenti abrasivi, si insinuarono e con la loro opera erosiva diedero inizio alla formazione del profonda e variopinta fenditura che oggi ammiriamo. I colori prevalenti delle stratificazioni sono il rosso e il bianco, e nelle giornate di sole queste forre solcate da acque limpidissime appaiono come una vera e propria opera d’arte della natura.
L’Ambiente
La Valle dell’Art, profondamente incisa nelle rocce tenere della Scaglia Rossa e del Flysch e costellata lungo i fianchi da numerosi fenomeni franosi erosivi, connota in modo singolare il paesaggio di questo lembo delle di Prealpi Bellunesi.
Il torrente Art scorre spesso imprigionato in forre umide e cupe, con fondo stretto e angusto confinato entro pareti levigate e
incombenti.
Partendo da S. Antonio di Tortal l'itinerario attraversa un'estesa superficie pianeggiante (piana alluvionale) costituita da depositi torrentizi antichi.
Poco oltre Case Dal Magro si supera una collinetta detritica, testimonianza dell'era glaciale (argine morenico) per poi costeggiare e infine raggiungere il parcheggio e una scarpata valliva da dove inizia la discesa ai Brent de l'Art.
Scendendo, sulla destra, si osserva una spettacolare scarpata erosiva, modellata nelle rocce marnoso-argillose griogi oviolacee della Marna della vena d'Oro.
La Genesi della Forra
Le forre, profonde e orride gole, confinate entro pareti levigate e verticali, sono spesso il risultato della deviazione del corso di un torrente, provocata dall’intasamento del vecchio alveo provocato da una grande frana e dei depositi alluvionali di un corso d’acqua laterale (conoide torrentizio).
Nel caso dei Brent de l’Art è molto probabile che la forra rappresenti un “varco”, relativamente recente, che il torrente Art si è dovuto aprire in seguito ad una frana antica che ha sepolto la vecchia valle, costringendo il corso d’acqua a spostarsi più a sinistra.
Il sentiero che scende ai “Brent” si sviluppa infatti su depositi eterogenei/caotici che rappresentano verosimilmente l’accumulo, ormai stabilizzato di una vecchia frana.
I detriti assieme alla piena d’acqua, una volta entrati nel canyon creano dei mulinelli, sbattono sulle pareti scavando la roccia e fluiscono poi a valle. Non è raro trovare sulle anse più strette e curve molti sassi ruvidi ma di forma quasi sferica, sono i sassi che vorticano in cerchio sulle pareti dei Brent e modellano come un bravo scultore la roccia.
Si presume che l’opera di scavo naturale più importante sia durata dai 10.000 ai 15.000 anni, in coincidenza con il disgelo dopo la fine della glaciazione wurmiana (8.000-10.000 anni prima di Cristo) e continui, anche se in maniera molto più debole anche adesso.
Le Rocce
La Forra è incisa nelle formazioni della Scaglia Rossa e della Scaglia Cinerea.
La “Scaglia Rossa” è un materiale facilmente erodibile, ma presenta una buona stabilità verticale ed è la roccia presente sui Brent de L’Art con i sui strati calcareo marnosi bianchi e rossi, con interstrati di argille rosse e grigio-verdoline.
La scaglia Cinerea costituita come la scaglia rossa da calcari argillosi e marne, è sovrapposta a quest’ultima e se ne distingue per la caratteristica colorazione grigio cenere.
Le intercalazioni di queste due conformazioni rocciose, creano un spettacolare gioco di colori tra il rosso e il bianco in un alternarsi di curve sinuose che si addentrano per un lungo tratto dentro il canyon.
Sono necessarie calzature da escursionismo.

Introduction

The Art stream flows often imprisoned in wet and gloomy ravines, with straight and narrow bottom confined within walls and polished
incumbent.
Starting with S.Antonio di Tortal the route crosses an extensive flat area (floodplain) consisting of ancient torrential deposits.
Just past Case Dal Magro it exceeds a debris mound, witness of the ice age (glacial embankment) to then hug and finally reach the car park and an escarpment valliva from where the descent to Brent de l'Art.
Going down, on the right, there is a spectacular cliff erosion, modeled in marl clay rocks griogi oviolacee Marne of the Golden vein.
The Genesis of the gorge
Ravines, deep gorges and horrid, sealed within the smooth and vertical walls, are often the result of the deviation of the course of a stream, caused by clogging of the old river bed caused by a huge landslide and alluvial deposits of a lateral water course (torrential fan).
In the case of Brent de l'Art is very likely that the gorge represents a "gap", relatively recent, the Art stream has had to open following an ancient landslide that buried the old valley, forcing the river to move further to the left.
The path down to the "Brent" develops fact of heterogeneous / chaotic deposits that probably represent the accumulation, now stabilized of an old landslide.
The debris along with the water-filled, once inside the canyon creating eddies, banging on the walls by digging the rock, and then flow downstream. It is not rare to find on the more narrow loops and curves many rough stones but almost spherical, are the stones that swirl in a circle on the Brent walls and shape like a good sculptor rock.
It is assumed that the work of the most important natural excavation lasted from 10,000 to 15,000 years, coinciding with the thaw after the end of the glaciation Wurm (8,000-10,000 years before Christ) and continuous, albeit far weaker now.
The rocks
The gorge is engraved in the formations of the Red Scaglia and Scaglia Cinerea.
The "Red Hurls" rock formed precisely around 100-60 million years ago is an easily eroded material, but has a good vertical stability and is this rock on Brent de L'Art with its layers limestone white and red marl, with interlayers of red clay and gray-greenish.
Hurls Ashen established as the red flake of clayey limestone and marl, it is superimposed on the latter, and it is distinguished by the characteristic gray ash color.
Intercalation of these two rock formations, creating a spectacular play of colors between red and white in a succession of sinuous curves that go into a long stretch in the canyon.
