Geocache Description:

This cache provides you with the opportunity to visit the Ebensburg War Memorial while getting a sneak peak at the Old Cambria County Jail.

This cache is located within the park where the Ebensburg War Memorial is located.  The War Memorial honors the Cambria County natives that served in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, and the Spanish-American War.

The park is in excellent condition and very well-maintained.  I recommend that you take some time to look over the names and enjoy the atmosphere.  The Old Cambria County Jail is located next to the park.  Make sure you are on the look out for Michael "Smitty" Smith, who escaped from the Prison in 1884, a day before he was to be hanged for murder! Smith, was never to be seen again...

This is Featured Cache #37 of the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Geotrail, which highlights the scenic and historic amenities of the area. Be sure to collect and record the Geotrail Code Word from in (or near, in the case of micros) the cache to your official Geotrail Passport, which can be obtained from the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. A map and list of all caches featured in the Geotrail can be found at or they can be bulk downloaded from the bookmark list.
