Supernatural is an American fantasy horror television series created by Eric Kripke. The series follows two brothers (Dean and Sam Winchester) as they hunt demons, ghosts, monsters, and other supernatural beings. It was first broadcast on September 13, 2005 on The WB and subsequently became part of successor The CW's lineup. Season 12 is set to premiere on October 13, 2016 and will hopefully run for many more seasons. I was introduced to Supernatural after searching for something similar to The X Files on Netflix. I quickly became a huge fan and watch each and every episode I can get my hands on.
Castiel is an Angel of the Lord portrayed by Misha Collins, first appearing in the fourth season. He is used to introduce the theme of Christian theology to the series. During his travels with the Winchesters, Castiel develops friendships with both men. As an angel, he possesses a number of supernatural abilities, including the ability to kill demons. Initially, the character demonstrates complete devotion to God and little emotion. However, his interactions and experiences with Dean and Sam Winchester, as well as certain revelations about God and his fellow angels, have a humanizing effect on him. This, despite the stress and harm it causes his character, allows him to develop an independent will as the series progresses and helps the show address topics related to free will.
